World Association for Online Education

The WAOE is a free academic society for individuals interested in e-learning. Registered with the State of California in 1998 as an NPO, we are one of the first global virtual organizations. The most direct way to participate is to join our e-mail discussion forum WAOE-Views, or follow our WAOE Facebook Page.

Since emergency remote teaching became needed worldwide, our activities have greater relevance than ever. For example, WAOE members from six countries collaborated on two book chapters, with “Global Online Education” exceeding 11,000 reads on ResearchGate. WAOE President Steve McCarty has recently published many invited articles including “Online Education as a Discipline,” “25 Years of Online Academic Conferences,” “Post-Pandemic Pedagogy” at New York University, and an interesting interview on “How Asian Universities can Rise to the Current Challenge.”

NEW: From July 2024 to at least June 2027, Ramesh Sharma and Steve McCarty are Expert Members of the Working Group on Digital Education and Skills for the Indo-Pacific European Hub for Digital Partnerships, funded by the EU and partners India, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore.

Besides the WAOE-Views discussions, our main thrust these days is collaboration on educational technology projects.
